Different Types Of Bicycles
When choosing a bike, pick the best style for your needs. There are three different types of bicycles: road, mountain and hybrid.
Road bikes are classified into two categories: touring and racing. Commonly used in endurance races like the Tour de France, touring bikes are designed for long distance riding with their dropped handlebars and narrow wheel rims and tires. On the other hand, the racer is built for speed with its aerodynamic, ultra-light frame, short wheelbase, and 12 or 18 gears that help keep you at top speed.
Also called off-road bikes or all-terrain bikes, mountain bikes have sturdy frames, straight handlebars, and wide tires that can withstand the rigors of off-road riding. Upright riding position and full suspension provide comfort and easy maneuverability on steep inclines.
Somewhere in between are the hybrids, also called street bike, city bike, or utility bike. Riding position is more upright than a road bike, and frames are lighter than a mountain bike. Some hybrid bikes are built with front suspension to absorb shocks and bumps on rough city streets and bike tracks.
